Culture is always a part of French class

This reader is a useful way to embed intercultural awareness and socio-emotional learning principles into daily French lessons. Music and animated videos provide opportunities for students to hear, read, say, and write the vocabulary and structures needed to communicate about one’s country of origin, nationality, national flag, and customs. I have been using the animated video and accompanying customizable skit transcription since the DJ DELF series first came out a number of years ago. Now that the reader is available, students have something concrete in their hands as they listen to the song or watch the first version of the video. The game « Pouvez-vous identifier les drapeaux suivants? » on pages 69-70 is a great way to practice country names, nationalities, and colours. So many activities and worksheets are available on the learning platform, and these give students the opportunity to practice and showcase their understanding in various ways.
